Local Spinach Food, now Carrot juice…
It seems that locally grown (Washington) spinach is now available in some restaurants and stores. The waitperson at the last restaurant I was at, said that at least every other order had spinach in it. It’s funny how absence makes the heart grow fonder. Who knew it could happen with spinach. There’s still lots of alternatives such as kale (multiple varieties), chard, Asian greens (bok choy,…) and collard greens.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the juice… now, we have a botulism scare with carrot juice! The product warning is specific to Bolthouse Farms carrot juice from Bakersfield, California, the 450ml and 1 liter plastic bottles, with “BEST IF USED BY” dates of NOV 11 2006 or earlier. These products are sold at 7-Eleven and QFC in the Seattle area. Don’t drink these products, throw them away! You can find more information on the FDA website http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2006/NEW01475.html or Bolthouse Farms website http://www.bolthouse.com/consumer_home.html
