More on E. Coli
Why has E.Coli contaminated our food supply? Where does it come from?
It is a very specific strain of E.Coli (Escherichia coli O157:H7) which can lead to infection and potentially death. It lives in the intestines of cows. That is why undercooked beef and produce that has come in contact with sewage from cattle farming can become contaminated.
E.Coli wasn’t a problem until large scale cattle farming became common practice. These large cattle production facilities have dense populations of cows which are fed a diet of corn, hormones and antibiotics. Providing a breeding ground of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. Now E.Coli is a permanent part of our food chain. The ownership of controlling this bacteria is now put upon the farmers, grocers and restaurants. Now we have become the canary in the coal mine. Why can’t we go back to the source and fix the problem? We need to take an alternative medicine view of the issue, look at the big picture, work on prevention or fix the source of the problem instead of treating the symptom.
Did you know that cows aren’t even meant to eat corn? We had to create a special bred of cow to digest corn, they’re supposed to eat grass. How many times have you seen a cow grazing in a corn field? To be continued…
